Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Agricultural extension services are critical for disseminating agricultural knowledge, modern techniques, and resources to farmers. Public relations (PR) plays a vital role in enhancing these services by fostering effective communication, building trust, and ensuring active participation of stakeholders. In Damaturu LGA, where agriculture forms the backbone of the local economy, PR strategies such as community engagement, media campaigns, and feedback mechanisms have been instrumental in addressing barriers to the adoption of modern farming practices. By bridging the communication gap between agricultural extension officers and farmers, PR facilitates the dissemination of critical information, enabling sustainable agricultural practices and improved livelihoods (Yusuf & Ibrahim, 2023). This study explores the role of PR in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural extension services in Damaturu LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the significant potential of agricultural extension services, challenges such as poor communication, low awareness, and resistance to change hinder their effectiveness in Damaturu LGA. PR strategies are not always integrated effectively into these services, resulting in limited farmer engagement and adoption of modern practices. This study investigates how PR can be better utilized to address these challenges, improve communication, and foster collaboration between extension officers and farmers.
